PHRF Rating Adjustment Procedure

·         If you think your PHRF Rating is not correct you will need to submit a request to the race committee. In that request you will need to explain why you think your handicap is not correct and include information to support your claim. An obvious example is the PHRF ratings at another club. You would need to include enough boats in the ratings so that the race committee can compare several boats that we would be familiar with in North Texas. Submitting a list of 2 ratings: a Catalina 22 at 300 and a Homebuilt 21 at 312 will not be sufficient.

·         Another example would be to find a website where different boats or modifications are discussed along with rating differences. Sometimes a Beneteau 210 is not the same as a Beneteau 210.

·         Don't think that the race committee expects you to do all the work. We will attempt to give you the fairest rating possible. Just be aware that your handicap could go down instead of up due to your request. Do your homework first!

Boat Ratings

·         The rating you are given is based upon the information you give us when you sign up for a race. You should list any modifications that you have made to your boat or that someone else has made to the boat.

·         Not reporting changes is cheating.

·         Also, not giving enough information can also result in the wrong rating. If you have a Catalina 30, it can have a tall mast or a standard mast, a fin keel or a wing keel or a shoal draft keel. All of these affect your rating. If you don't know, you need to find out. You need to be the expert about your boat. So please give us this information when you register for a race. If there is not a place to put it, contact us before the race to make sure we have the correct data. If you honestly don't know, come talk to us before showing up at the skippers meeting and we will try to help. If you fail to give us all the information, we have no choice but to assume you have the fast one and you will get a lower rating.

·         A dirty bottom or poor bottom job is not a reason for a higher rating. Old, worn out sails are not a reason for a higher rating
